In 2012, Diamantina Accommodation Village was constructed to cater for the expanding workforce regularly travelling to Roma and relieve some of the pressure on accommodation facilities in the area. The project was undertaken and included the development, design and construction of the camp on a 18.75 hectare site.

For close to a decade, Diamantina Village provided serviced rooms to workers in the region, enabling comfortable accommodation for guests in a fully catered, village-style setup.

As part of the strategy for maximizing downtime and staff retention, several initiatives were incorporated into the design. These included luxuries such as high-speed internet access in all rooms, cardio gym, weights gym, fully-licensed bar, training rooms, tennis courts, alfresco barbecue facilities and a pool.

The supply of well-balanced, healthy meals also created a higher level of staff wellbeing, and provided a more homely experience compared to a traditional workers’ camp.

The project was delivered in three stages, based on external key stakeholders needs. Each stage was successfully delivered within the programmed milestone dates.

Following the completion of construction works, the FKG Group undertook the ongoing operation, staffing and running of the Village until its closure in 2020.
